In our Mothers’ House

In our Mothers’ House

Polacco, P. (2009) In Our Mothers’ House. New York, NY: Philomel Books.

This book is about two mothers, Marmee and Meema, and their three adopted children. They have a very diverse family, one African American girl, an Asian boy, and a Caucasian girl. The children recall their childhood memories together, from holidays to rituals, to the family that did not agree with their living lifestyle.

Realistic Fiction

Readers who have interracial families; Readers who wants to learn about Homosexual families; Readers who want to learn about adopted children.

Rate: 5; I really like this book it showed one family in many different ways and it showed that with all these differences in their family love is still the center.

Question: What are some things you notice from the cover about this family?
